Youngsters launch app that reaches fourth place in the App Store trends

The creators of the online tutoring platform 'Grades Up' launched another app a few days ago. 'Veera' aims to be a social network that promotes interactions between people with the same interests, having reached fourth place in the App Store trends.

Created by João Rui Rego and Afonso Resendes from São Miguel Island, 'Veera', in the first 24 hours after its launch, was just below the giants Glovo, Pinterest and Tinder; this was a "shock", in a positive sense, for both young creators. “It was a moment of shock. We were quite confident about the app, but we were not aware that it would have such an impact at such an early stage”.

Right now, the goal of João Rui Rego and Afonso Resendes is to work even more so as "to keep up with the trends, but above all to offer the best possible experience to our users”.

But what is so special about 'Veera' after all? Its creators speak of authenticity based on “what people are and not what they appear to be”.
“In Veera's profile, the person's tastes are presented, from travel, to podcasts, to fashion – ('Be yourself'); there is no profile picture either, but a 'Veemoji', which is the funniest puppet the user will be able to create”, explains João Rui Rego.

The app, which is free and where there are no photographs, also provides the option to create 'Vees', that is, activities that can be carried out with other users.
And it is “super easy” to create a 'Vee': “First, write down the activity you intend to carry out, for instance 'Who wants to go to the movies on Friday?'; second, select the category ('sport, cinema, music, ...'); third, post it by pressing the 'Add to your Veera' button.

After creating 'Grades Up', the two youngster saw another problem in society: the “falsehood” on social media.

In fact, “everyone tries to show that they have a perfect life behind filters, stories and posts on social networks like Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat, when, in reality, some of these people suffer from anxiety problems and even depression”.
