Program "Regressar" adjusted to the Region

The regional directors for Communities and Professional Qualification and Employment, José Andrade and Nuno Gomes respectively, met in Lisbon with the Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities, Berta Nunes, and the Secretary of State for Employment, Miguel Cabrita, with a view to adapt the "Regressar" (To Return) program to the Azores. The meeting follows up on the recent summit held between the Regional Government of the Azores and the Government of the Portuguese Republic.

In a note published by the Regional Government in its portal, it is stated that, currently, the "Regressar" program does not allow emigrants who return to the Azores and Madeira to benefit from support under the same conditions as other Portuguese citizens or Portuguese descendants returning to the mainland do. According to the same source, the program, which provides incentives up to 7,600 euros and has been extended until 2023, includes concrete measures, such as a more favorable tax regime for those who return, financial support for emigrants or emigrants' relatives who come to work in Portugal, and a credit facility to support business investment and the creation of new businesses, among other measures.
